It's been a pretty rainy summer. It's almost over and it seems like it didn't really get started at all. I haven't been able to hit the green lately because it's usually soggy from the latest downpour. Well hopefully we'll get some nice weather for the long weekend and hopefully it'll last for a little while longer because I'm itching to get my clubs out and play a little golf. Luckily for Californians weather is not much of an issue like it is for us in the East Coast, so luckily the Hailey’s Wish 2008 Golf Tournament will be held at the beautiful Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita in California. If you're interested in joining this Charity Golf Tournament, then check out this Press Release:

* Fund research to advance treatments for children with mitochondrial diseases.
* Educate the medical community and public to promote early diagnosis and a better understanding of these complex diseases, which are nearly as common as childhood cancer.

We are driven by the belief that through research and education we can work to assure all children an early diagnosis and a better quality of life.

Lotus Germination Part 8
On Day 15, I transferred Lotus #3 to the heated aquarium where Lotus #2 has been growing. The days have been getting shorter and the outdoor water temperatures are dropping below 20C. Lotus #3 has been growing well, having grown out a second leaf, which has not yet unfurled.
I do not want to see it go dormant as the fall approaches, so it will grow along with Lotus #2 in water temperatures maintained between 26-28C and a constant light source from a 20W fluorescent bulb.
Lotus #2 has displayed the most vigorous growth. It's third leaf has unfurled, and a fourth leaf is developing rapidly.
Unfortunately, it's second leaf has not yet unfurled, and appears to be drying out.
Lotus #1 does not seem to be doing well.

Blaze Media Pro Multimedia Software
I have been looking for Multimedia software that I can use to convert files for quite some time now. Sometimes certain PC programs are unable to read files in avi format and prefer it in mpeg format. I hate it when that happens. Well, with Blaze Media Pro software, you can take an avi file and convert to MPEG lickity split. Not only that, Blaze Media Pro supports a wide range of formats like CD, MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, AVI, WMV, MOV, Flash (SWF and FLV), iPod, PSP, 3GP, etc. On top of that it can be used as an editor, recorder, CD/DVD ripper. You can also use the software for burning audio, video, and data in CD/DVD formats. This new software is a must for any multimedia connoisseur, so check it out.
Lotus Project Update
I started several more lotus seeds last month for growing outdoors. One from the original group of lotus seeds, plus several more which I got from Thailand. Unfortunately, some pesky raccoons have been digging up the ones that are growing out of the pond. They also ate some of the germinating seeds that I had left on the patio.... pesky varmints. So in total, I only have 7 surviving plants. They are growing happily in the pond. It has been cold and raining lately and it seems like they are slowing down in their growth. What happened to the hot summer everybody was talking about? Will try to take some pics and post them.

Wow is it already time for the Olympics? I am planning on getting up early in the morning to watch the opening ceremonies. They are on at 7 AM over here. I was watching the coverage of the dress rehearsal on the news and it looked like a great show. I'm also interested to see if there will be any disruptions and how the communist government will try to cover those up.
Lotus Germination Part 7
By Day 10, Lotus #1 has put out two leaves, the third one is visible breaking through the soil surface. If you recall, Lotus #1 is growing in a south facing window in the kitchen. It's water temperatures are not controlled, and I have measured it as low as 21 C. This should be expected to fall even lower during the fall and winter months. It can also be observed that none of the leaves have unfurled as of yet.
Lotus # 2, has put out three leaves, but only the first one has unfurled. This one has been growing at temperatures of 24-28 C. When the second leaf was growing out however, there was a slight drop in the water temperature. I'm thinking this may have something to do with its slowness to unfurl.
Lotus #3 has only one leaf by day 10. As you may recall this one is growing outside, it's water temperatures are also not controlled. During the day it's water temperature can reach as high as 30C in the midday sun, I'm unsure of how low the water temperature dips during the night. As you can see from the picture, it is shorter in length compared to #2, and it appears to have a reddish-brown hue to its leaf, compared to the very green leaf of #2.
