Okay folks, let me get back to regular programing here.... what the heck have I been doing with my sorry existence?.... I've been running a lot for one thing.... living several blocks from Central Park is awesome.... it gives me the motivation to finally stick with the on-again, off-again relationship I've had for years, with my running shoes.... it's just so much more interesting to run in Central Park than it is to run on a treadmill.... so, let me share with you some of the scenes from my frequent runs since I came to New York....

So the Yankees just became the American League Champions. I watched the game at Friday's in Times Square, and although I was pleased with how the game ended, ie. the Yankees winning, I was wholly disappointed with the lack of celebration on the streets of New York City. I remember when the Jays won the American League Championship, way back when... twice in a row actually. They closed down Yonge street and we partied into the wee hours of the morning. Oh well, maybe when the Yankees win the World Series, New York will get more excited.

Well, I have finally finished all the required documents for my application. It took quite a while to complete, but it's all done. I am actually proud of myself for completing it more than a day before the deadline. It's so unlike me to not leave it until the very last minute. I think that I have improved myself a little bit here. I hope this new found un-procrastinating attitude sticks! I also have my friends Ryl and Vivi to thank. They helped me to obtain most of the required documents, so it made my job a lot easier. Thanks guys. Well, for now it's in the hands of the big guy. I'm not really banking on a good result, but I had to try. Plus going through the process now gives me practice for when I have to do it for real next year! Like I said in the title, good luck to me....

So I missed Thanksgiving this year. Now I kinda have a craving for some turkey with all them fixins'. It's probably better anyways, I wasn't really in the mood to do all the family stuff this year. Actually, I haven't felt like doing the family stuff for quite a few years now, I've just been forcing myself. And to think, on top of this fact, my ex-girlfriend's mother was going to be at the family Thanksgiving table. I thought that would be doubly weird for me. Thankfully, I'm here in New York until after she goes back home. Too much awkwardness for to handle at the moment. Man, I love New York, but I miss Canada. Especially after watching all the Canada bashing on How I Met Your Mother on Monday night.

Let's Talk Perfume for a moment. I have this thing for Davidoff Cool Water, both the men's version and the women's version. There's something about it that makes me feel refreshed, whether I'm wearing it or I smell it on a lady. The smell reminds me of just coming out of the shower smelling all clean and fresh. Maybe it's the name or all the ads about it, but that's just the image that pops into my head when I smell it. I'm actually more partial to the fresh smelling colognes actually, versus the more musky ones. I guess it also depends on where I'll be wearing the cologne to. I guess a hot and heavy date calls for something more musky. Hmmm, I'll have to ask the ladies about that one.

I seriously love How I Met Your Mother. Last Monday's episode was hilarious! I especially enjoyed how they make fun of Canada. As a Canadian I don't find it offensive at all. I'm actually impressed that they know so much about Canadian cliches. The funny thing for me is not all the Canada bashing per se.... although it is pretty funny.... and I guess it is pretty Canadian to laugh at yourself. The funniest thing for me is how it makes Americans look ignorant.... haha take that yanks! just kidding....

So like I was saying, I had a pretty good walk today... I don't exactly remember which route I took today. Unlike other days where I just stick to one avenue and take it all the way up to 100th St., today I did some twists and turns along the way depending on what struck my fancy along the way. The furthest I got though was only 23rd St., I had to grab another shake shack burger because I had a craving for all that burger goodness... It was raining tonight, but at least with wasn't pouring. Luckily I was able to find that awesome umbrella that has that awesome shoulder strap thing... you can even wear it like a backpack... I wear it slung across my back like a samurai sword so when it starts to rain I just unsheath it and bamm! Umbrella! Anyways, here's some pictures from my nightly walk...

I was sleeping pretty soundly a while ago when the roomie suddenly woke me up, and now I can't sleep, so here I am blogging instead. I have to be productive at least because I can't stand wasting time when I can't fall asleep. I got pretty good and tired today on my almost daily Manhattan walkabout. I think I did less than my usual 10 miles though, but my legs still feel pretty worked out. I went for another shake shack burger, I ate it in Times Square.... awesome burger, I love the last bit of buttery hamburger bun goodness. Anyways, I'm gonna try and get some sleep....

Just got home from another one of my nightly Manhattan walkabouts.... tonight I did 5th avenue from Washington Square up to 100th St.... actually I started my day on 100th St. and walked down along Lexington Ave stopping along the way to check stuff out, then I went to St. Pat's for mass and benediction, got a falafel at 34th St and walked to Washington Square where I ate said falafel.... then I walked back home to 100th St.... I checked mapquest, and going to Washington Square is a little over 5 miles from 100th St. That means I did 10 miles today.... nice....

Well summer is coming to a close here in New York City. It wasn't much of a summer with all those cool days, and all those rainy days. So whenever the sun was out I'm sure everybody took advantage of it. Taking a trip down to Jones Beach was pretty cool. Just lying around on the sand and soaking up the rays, or playing beach volleyball, it's too bad we can't all live on the beach. Basically, I just walk up and down the island of Manhattan until I'm exhausted. The furthest walk I did took me down 115 blocks. I try to take different avenues, just to see what's interesting. Seeing and experiencing New York is best done on foot.

My friends have tuned me into How I Met Your Mother, and I didn't know what I had been missing. It is hilarious, and I totally see myself in Ted Mosby in how neurotic he is. I did a How I Met Your Mother marathon over the weekend, so I could be caught up for the season premiere of season 5 this past Monday. So that was four seasons at about twenty two episodes per season at about twenty one minutes per episode.... so if you do the math, that's 1848 minutes, or about 30 hours, or a little over a whole day of watching t.v. on my laptop. It was worth it. Awesome! That show is Legen.... wait for it....

I just finished one after months of writing and re-writing, then getting friends to critique, then re-writing it again. I had a mentor of mine read it too, and had to completely re-write it again! It's been a really hot and sunny day today, but all of a sudden, dark clouds have rolled over. It's so dark right now, and I can hear the thunder starting to roll in. I hope this storm washes away some of the humidity coz it's so unbearably hot! I just hope that it's not so strong this time around that it doesn't blow everything over on the balcony. Some of the vegetables were ruined. Oh well, I just hope it cools things down a little.

I've been watching a lot of movies lately on HBO. It's great coz I have been out of the loop for so long that I've missed out on a lot of great movies. Luckily my friends here in New York signed up of HBO On Demand just when I got here, so I've been catching up on a lot of popular culture. Since my friends are huge Harry Potter fans, I've also caught myself up on all the movies so that when HP6 came out, I was prepared. I even started reading the books, and I was surprised how easily I got hooked.

Boy oh boy was it ever hot today in New York City! And yesterday too! It was over 90 degrees and with the humidity, it felt even hotter. Then when you go down into the subway it feels like it's over 100. I just got home from the subway, and I was in there from midnight to 1:30AM, and it was still hot despite the fact that the sun set hours ago. I hear that in Arizona, it only a comfortable 80 degrees, and what with the desert dry heat, I bet it's a lot more comfortable than what it's like here in New York City. Spam the luncheon "meat" that is, not spam of the internet variety. I was just watching CNN and they reported that Spam has enjoyed a resurgence since the start of this economic downturn. Well, I have always loved Spam. I love it for breakfast, lunch , or dinner. Apparently, the factory workers who make Spam are working overtime to get enough of their product on the shelves before they fly off. At least some people are getting good work during these economic hard times.

I just realized that there won't be any episode of Lost tomorrow. I just forgot that last week was the season finale. Oh well, there's nothing left to watch on t.v. until fall. Lotus Project Update

I received some more lotus seeds from Thailand last week. I decided to start another batch of seeds and test how they grow under slightly different growing conditions. Now that it is fall, they cannot go outside for sunlight, so I will set up a heated aquarium in a southern exposure. They will be able to receive direct sunlight during the day, but since the days are getting shorter, I will supplement their light with a 13W fluorescent light bulb. I will give them 6-7 hours of artificial light on top of the sunlight they will receive during the day.

I scarified all the seeds by opening up the blunt or dimpled end. There are four groups of seeds. The first group consists of 3 seeds from the same batch of seeds used in the previous "lotus projects".A second group consists of 4 seeds of Red lotus.
A third group consists of 3 seeds of Pink lotus (the third seed was added to the group one day later, and so is not pictured).And a fourth group consists of 3 seeds of White lotus (the third seed was added to the group one day later, and so is not pictured). The seeds were placed in 500ml water bottles with the tops cut off. These were floated in the heated aquarium and maintained at a temperature of 26-28C. Some of the seeds will serve as controls. They will be grown under the same conditions of the original "lotus projects", without exposure to sunlight.

Holy crap Lost's season finale was awesome tonight! I was kind of a bit disappointed with Season 5, sort of.... parts of it seemed slow, but the plot is definitely starting to wind down. Or is it wind up? Anyway, it's starting to explain things. But man tonight's episode was another one of those classic cliffhangers we all love Lost for. Now is Season 6 going to be the final season, or is there going to be a Season 7? It seems like they're starting to explain things getting ready for an ending.... oh well, will have to wait another summer til the continuation.

Fish

It's been a long time since I have updated y'all on Mushu. He's grown to 18 " in length, and is as hungry as ever. I fed him a couple of goldfish from the backyard pond, and I think that contributed to his size. I'm trying not to feed him too much because I do not want him to outgrow another tank. A bigger tank will just be too expensive and I frankly do not have the space for it. Aside from getting so big, Mushu also has finally made friends with Philippe his janitor fish. I was feeding Philippe some very rich food in a separate tank until he got big enough not to fit in Mushu's mouth. Well, he finally reached an appropriate size so I introduced him to Mushu's tank. After a few weeks of attempted murder, Mushu has decided to leave Philippe alone. I have made two undergravel caves for Philippe to hide in though. He feels safe in there, and I still feed him the high protein food so he'll get even bigger.....

I said hecks ya!... it worked out great because I have an exam around the same time.... at first I tried to move my exam to January, but the earliest I could move it to was in Februay.... well, it turns out that there was a good reason for me to take the exam in February.... there's even enough time for me to rearrange things so that I can make just one trip to the New York, New Jersey area....

I just fed Nermal a late lunch/early dinner. I asked him if he was hungry and he replied "meeeoooow", but it sounded more like "Ya I'm hungry, what are you stupid or something?". Anyways, he just finished a few seconds ago and he comes upstairs to the computer and complains that it wasn't enough. Since I'm trying not to be distracted, just ignored him, and he eventually gave up and went to the corner to sulk and groom. Anyways, I am really feeling sick now, it's not funny anymore. I submitted my list of programs, but I'm still working on my PS. I got a little worried, because one of the documents that was assigned to the programs has not yet been scanned. I'm hoping that they will scan it next week. Oh well, I'm not going to worry about it. I'm feeling really sick and I think I should just lie down.... I know I'm getting sick when my gums start to tingle.... is that weird?

I'm thinking of just going to City Hall, but I'm thinking it's probably going to be freakin' cold.... I don't know how long we'll be able to withstand it.... I'm not too sure about what kind of a show they'll be putting on either..... maybe we could just pretend we're in New York Times Square... it'll probably be warmer there what with all the lights....

Interesting Lost

Okay that was an interesting episode of Lost.... I guess a little bit more character development.... never really liked those two though.... but it was interesting that they had discovered the second hatch before everybody else and how the guy over-heard Ben's plans to get Jack to do the surgery.... now why the heck didn't he tell the rest of the people, I mean why wouldn't you tell everybody that you saw the others and heard what they said.... stupid....

Spa Jobs

When Ann and I went of vacation in the tropics a few years ago, she made me go to a spa at the resort we were at. I say "made me go" because I had never been to a spa, nor had I ever gotten a massage from a stranger. I'm pretty ticklish, and the idea of a stranger touching me makes me feel like I'd be even more ticklish. Well, it wasn't so bad. I didn't really enjoy it that much though. I'd rather get a massage from Ann, wink wink nudge nudge....

There was a recent announcement from BeautyJobs.com about the launch of a Beauty Industry Job Placement Website that will connect qualified job seekers with salon and spa owners and others who have beauty, salon, spa, or cosmetology jobs to fill—free of charge. She did a course, and got her certificate to be an aethestician a long time ago. She never got to pursue that field after she decided to go to university and get her B.A., but she's always trying out her skills on my skin!

Lost is Winding Down

Holy crap, the new and I think final season of Lost is coming.... Space is going to be airing back to back episodes starting Jan 5 so that they can squeeze in all the remaining episodes before the season premiere of the final season starts on Jan 20.... so that will be 7-9 pm Monday-Thursday starting Jan 5 up to Jan 20.... can't wait.... that show is the best....

Well, plans to go to New York for New Year's Eve in Times Square have fallen through.... first I couldn't find anybody who wanted to brave the hours that you have to spend standing and waiting for the ball to drop.... if you want a great spot you should get there by 3-5pm.... so that9-7 hours of waiting.... then there's the expensive flights.... then there's the fact that everybody else already have plans it I can't find a place to crash.... oh well, there's always next year....

Wow, can't believe that it's almost Christmas already.... I just did my last minute, and only Christmas Shopping yesterday.... talk about waiting till the last minute eh? Anyway, I did some of my gift shopping online, so that really cut down on the fighting through shopping crowds and parking lot hell.... what did we ever do without the Internet.... There's no episode of Lost tonight... I was reading the space networks website, and I read there that they will be airing two episodes a night when season 4 kicks in.... that way they'll be able to air all the episodes from seasons 1 through 4 just minutes from the season premier of season 5.... that'll be wicked awesome.... I can't wait to find out what the heck is going on on that island.... I think season 5 is the last season....

It also resulted in me running out of time to submit three posts. I kept getting a message that it was not accepted because my post did not contain the necessary link.... but it did... oh well, next time I'll just move on to the next post....
